Partly because my love for you

A zine on memories, interiors, and more.

Tyler Watamanuk introduces Prune’s second zine with photographer Ava Williams.

Ava Williams photographs her life, and she photographs it all. She captures it for herself, her friends, and the various tens of thousands who follow along. Friendship and glittering silver pants, both beaming on a Manhattan night. A mid-conversation moment with her twin sister on a breezy sidewalk. The excitement of a wild-haired brunette peering over a Brooklyn rooftop. All shot with a mix of analog and digital cameras from Contax, Canon, and Ricoh. “Most of my images are born out of that moment of, Oh, I will remember this, but I need other people to remember it, too,” Williams says.

The photos often crackle with movement and camaraderie. Other times, they slow down, and a quieter form of intimacy emerges, the kind that stillness tends to bring. Mellow conversations sitting on floors in living rooms or silence while lying on unmade beds; The photographer alone in a room with nothing but the paintings and rugs. Williams captures the softer side of these everyday moments with the same fervent eye as the going-out fashion and flashing smiles of twentysomething youth. To her, they’re all memories worth preserving.

Today, Prune is releasing a limited-edition collection of zines and prints with Williams. They give an inside look at the interiors and moments that make up her life and photography. (There is also a signed print and an artist edition of the zine, including two small prints.) All are now available to purchase in The Dirt Shop.
